On the morning of Dec 24, 2015, Mr. Liu Xingfei, the representative of Leeds Beckett University introduced the university and entry requirements to students majoring in Global Trade & Business and Hospitality Management. He also offered professional advice to senior students who are going abroad next year.
The university traces its roots to 1824 and has a history of 190 years. Last year, the university changed its name from Leeds Metropolitan University to Leeds Beckett University. Although the name has changed, the university’s good education traditions and values remained. There are about 29,000 existing students , including over 1500 international students from over 100 countries. Leeds Beckett University is one of the largest UK universities with over 95% home students.
Based in Leeds, the third largest city in England, the university is ideally placed between London and Edinburgh, with only 2 hours by train to London. Leeds has its own international airport which provides direct flights to various cities in the UK and 75 countries in the world. Leeds is named as “the best place to study in the UK” by the Independent. The university has 4 schools and two campuses. City Campus is located in the city centre, which is convenient for students’ internship and job hunting.
In the lecture, Mr. Liu especially introduced the ideal platform catering to the needs of our HND students in applying theory to practice. In the last year of undergraduate study in Leeds Beckett University, students will study six modules, among which there are two modules based on internship: Consultancy Project and Working with Languages.
The two modules will group 3 to 5 students into a team to investigate and complete a marketing research project in a local enterprise so that they can familiarize with the business culture and develop their study skills, communication and team work. At the same time, the university also provides a sandwich course for the Hospitality Management students, namely, MSc International Hospitality & Tourism Management, which well prepares students for their future employment.
