On the night of April 28th, 2014 the most popular foreign teacher Robin Mitchell shared his life experience with students in the classroom C406 in Building 2 on Xiang’an campus. His lecture attracted a great many students of the International College and other colleges.
First of all, he introduced his family, childhood and experience of travelling around many countries, which made the students admire him a lot. Robin is a native Englishman. He was born in the old city Canterbury, 70 kilometers far away from London. He said that in Britain there was a gap year between high school and university and students could make use of it to do what they want. Then he told the students his colorful experiences in the gap year. After he graduated from , he began to travel. Robin has been to a lot of places, including , Spain, Taiwan, Korea, China, and so on. On the journey, he met various interesting people, learned different cultures and master French, Spanish, Korean and so on. His story attracted everyone in the classroom.
Eventually, Robin decided to settle down in China. Now he has married and has a lovely baby. When he first came to China, he did not even know a Chinese word. Robin says that he loves Chinese students very much and he thinks their attitude toward study is worth praising.
Robin believes that it is not essential to attach too much importance to the cultural difference between China and western countries; instead people should find more common points in different cultures. In the end, he share his most favorable words “You should make you more interesting, as you are the only person that you spend the most time getting along with.”
