At half past six on the evening of April 16, 2014, all the 56 period of Party School training activists of Overseas Education College and the International College of Xiamen University participated in a meeting in the classroom B209 in KunLuan Building. The meeting was hosted by the party secretary of Overseas Education College Yang Xiaoyan.
There were two main themes of the discussion. First, what was your motivation of joining the Party as an undergraduate or graduate student? Second, what did you think was the difference between the Party members and the common people?
To enable students to consider the questions freely, Yang did not begin with the right motivation she thought. Some students were influenced by their parents, relatives and other old party members, and thought the quality of party members were higher than the masses. Some believed that to join the Party was to prove their ability. However, others thought joining an excellent organization could make them have a broader space for development.
For the second question, associated with their real life, the students cited a number of examples to talk about the difference. They believed that the Communists were more responsible and played an important role in everyday life. Many students said that they were just influenced by the old communists before developing the idea to join the Communist Party of China. During the discussion, one student mentioned the song We are the Successors of Communism, because every time we sang this song, we felt very excited. The words evoked the party activists and teachers’ memory of Young Pioneers.
At the end of the discussion, Yang explained the procedures and the difference between personnel files and other archives, complementing the basic knowledge about joining the party. The discussion lasted about three hours. The students actively expressed their opinions.
On the evening of April 18, all the activists of Overseas Education College and the International College of Xiamen University attended a second lecture in Kunluan Building B209. The discussion was held by the Academy Youth League secretary Liu Wanyu.
On the seminar, everyone participated in discussing the seven topics put forward by Party School. In terms of correct attitude towards learning, the students agreed that we must strictly abide by discipline. At the same time, according to the Party Constitution mission requirements, the students should not only set their own goals in their daily study and life, but also learn the party constitution carefully.
On the issue “how to serve the people wholeheartedly”, the students agreed to begin with the little things, such as serving their classmates, studying hard to enhance the scientific and economic development, improving personal moral spirit, etc.
Meanwhile, students also discussed whether communism would be really achieved. Some students felt that the rice, water, toilet paper of the university were free of charge, which proved the possibility of realization of communism. However, some students considered that it could not be so simple, which needed to combine more theories and the reality.
Finally, Liu gave a summary. She said that as the college students in new century, we were living in an information explosion era. There was a sea of information, so it was quite difficult to distinguish the true and false information. Students needed to have their critical thinking. In particular, students should feel and judge according to their real life instead of the information on the network.
The seminar lasted about three hours. The participants discussed seven topics and expanded the discussion on the issues, including “Whether communism can be really achieved”, “How to treat the Internet and the media”, and so on. Students had a more profound and comprehensive understanding of the Communist Party of China and the world.
