On June 4, Xiang’an campus seemed so quiet as it was Saturday. But there was one exception: exciting sounds kept coming out from Building B, it was the sounds of teachers teaching in English, Japanese and Chinese. They were competing with each other in a teaching competition in which nearly 40 young teachers from Overseas Education College (OEC)/International College (IC) took part.
This competition was held as to select outstanding teachers to participate in the Eleventh Young Teacher Teaching Skills Competition & the Fifth Teaching Competition in English of Xiamen University (XMU). It offers opportunity forOEC/IC young teachers to exchange teaching skills and learn from each other. 40 participants and 18 judges (including 5 foreign teachers) were divided into four groups, plus 8 staff providing logistics services, making it a large-scale event.
Teaching competition is of great significance to improve teaching quality, standardize teaching management, update education ideas, innovate teaching methods and promote the development of young teachers. It offers a platform for them to exchange teaching experience and improve teaching skills. Leaders of OEC/IC have been attaching importance to such activity. Competition within the college has been arranged every year since the Seventh Young Teacher Teaching Competition at university level. Teachers chosen through such process are getting better results at university level competition every year. Many have won first and second-grade prizes and “Best Teaching Plan” prize. Meanwhile, many outstanding young teachers stood out from the competition, such as Xiao Ningyao, Hong Bin, Wu Ming, Su Yun, Ma Dujuan, Yang Wei, Wu Xiaohong, Liu Jiali, Wang Roujie, Lin Yingting, Cai Qingyun and Yang Shuai.
Wish that today’s competition will not only promote young teachers to improve their teaching skills, but also select out some outstanding teachers to compete at university level and bring honor to the college.
