Introduction: Chen Yingdi, graduated from Jimei University Chengyi College and majored in finance; entered master of education program for University of Southampton in 2008; currently a counsellor at JimeiUniversity Chengyi College.
Q: Why did you go to University of Southampton for your master of education after graduation?
Chen: To be a teacher has been my dream job, but I chose to major in finance as an undergraduate according to my family’s wish. After graduation, I got to know the master program of education in University of Southampton and I decided to pursue my dream. More importantly, I searched the information on the university and found that it’s one of the world top 100 universities and education is the leading area. This is what attracted me.
Q: You studied the one-year preparation program in the International College before going abroad. Did that help you?
Chen: It’s of great help for me. Firstly, the International College introduced part of education-related courses from University of Southampton, which laid a foundation for me as a cross-professional undergraduate. My English was improved to a new level after one-year all-English courses. In the meantime, learning English culture is also part of our program. This is very helpful for me to get used to the life in the UK.
Q: Does the overseas experience help you after you return to China and work?
Chen: It arms me with expanded horizons. Experiencing different educational systems, ideas and methods is of great help for my current job. Secondly, I now have a higher starting point in my career.
