On the afternoon of April 19, International College held the 2021 pre-departure Orientation at Kunluan Building, Xiang’an Campus.
The orientation aimed to provide graduating students with more opportunities to learn about foreign partner universities, and to better help students plan their study abroad. It was strongly supported by Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) directly under the Ministry of Education (MOE) and more than 20 foreign partner universities from the United Kingdom, Singapore, Canada, Hungary and other countries. More than 300 students attended in the orientation.
Ms Huang Guanhua, the deputy dean of International College, delivered a speech at the pre-departure orientation. She expressed gratitude for the visit and support of the Study Abroad Working Group of the CSCSE under the MOE, emphasized the importance of pre-departure training, and encouraged students to cherish this opportunity, actively learn about study abroad policies and information of the institutions, and carefully make relevant preparation for the study abroad.
Ms Jia Ying, the leader of the Study Abroad Working Group of the CSCSE under the MOE, the deputy general manager of Beijing Yinhong International Education Consulting Co., Ltd. made a speech. She congratulated the students on their graduation, and affirmed their good state of studying hard to overcome the impact of the epidemic. Ms Jia pointed out that the Study Abroad Working Group will always pay attention to the epidemic situation and escort the students to study abroad. Finally, on behalf of the Study Abroad Working Group of CSCSE, she congratulated Xiamen University on its 100th anniversary and wished the university a more brilliant new century.
Subsequently, the teachers of the Study Abroad Working Group gave two lectures in the multi-function hall B102 and classroom A202 of Kunluan Building respectively for the graduates of different study abroad programs of International College, explaining the application requirements of foreign partner institutions, the procedures for studying abroad, and the relevant preparation before going abroad. They introduced in detail the current situation of epidemic prevention on some campuses in the UK and the epidemic prevention requirements after entering the country. In addition, on-site training guidance was provided for students on the matters related to entry registration, visa renewal for master's degree, overseas credential evaluation and recognition for returnees, settlement and employment, and preferential policies for returnees.
After the lecture, the students came to the exhibition area of foreign universities, actively consulted with the teachers of foreign institutions about the professional situation and the requirements of universities, and had an in-depth understanding of their favorite schools to further clarify their intention to continue their application and study. The teachers of the partner universities patiently answered the questions of the students, helped them understand the study and life of foreign universities, and provided professional and meticulous guidance for the students to study abroad.
Since 2009, the pre-departure orientation of International College has become an important platform for students to communicate with foreign partner institutions. The smooth development of the pre-departure orientation not only provide students the opportunity to have face-to-face consultation with teachers from foreign institutions, but also received detailed and clear information on institutions and rich and authoritative information on studying abroad, which provided support and guarantee for students to study abroad smoothly.
