On July 23, 2016, the long-awaited Campus Day activities of the International College (IC) of Xiamen University (XMU) were held as scheduled. 101 families made reservation for this activity, and approximately 200 guests attended. In recent years, IC has been arranging Campus Day activity for those who are determined to study abroad to learn about IC’s internationalized educational features. Students and their parents arrived at XMU Xiang’an campus as early as 9:00 am, many of them even came a long way from Hunan, Shanxi, Zhejiang and other provinces upon learning of the news about IC Campus Day.
Asalon on pre-departure education for overseas study, several teaching demos and a campus tour were arranged. The salon was presided over by Ye Hong, a host from Xiamen Broadcasting and TV Network. Teachers in charge of programme cooperation, student management, English teaching and education affairs management and representatives of outstanding graduates participated in the discussion. The educational philosophies and internationalized talent development pattern of IC were effectively communicated to the attendees through active interactions and inspiring conversations. The invited graduates all came from the British 3+2 MasterProgramme of 2012, among whom Wen Qingqing received first-grade bachelor’s degree and admission from University of Sheffield, University of Birmingham, Loughborough University, University of Sussex and University of Liverpool for postgraduate study, and Cai Xiaoxian graduated from University of Hull as a bachelor, and was admitted by University of Southampton (Rank 81 in QS University Rankings 2015) for his postgraduate study.
During teaching demos,Stephen, our senior foreign teacher and an examiner of CPE, CAE and FCE’s speaking English tests, presented a lively English lesson for students and their parents. WSET-certified Shi Fengxia gave a lecture on wine-tasting. Besides, demos of Japanese, Arts and other majors were offered for the participants to find the distinctive charm of internationalized education.
Following teaching demos was a guided tour to the exhibition of ten-year’s development of IC and a tour to campus facilities such as library, natatorium, gymnasium, golf course and dormitory area on bus. The participants were also offered complimentary canteen tickets for them to have a taste of school meals.
Though a short day it is, such all-dimensional opening and considerate services have enabled the students and parents to learn about IC’s educational philosophies and achievements, campus environment and culture. Many parents signed up immediately after the tour. The Campus Day was brought to a successful end with the efforts and cooperation of all participants.
